Artificial intelligence is making many jobs more sophisticated. Employees can leave monotonous tasks to the robots and focus on higher-level tasks. Examples are support, administration, recruitment and analysis.

These trends highlight the need for employees to be able to learn.

For example, a system can gather and analyse information but teams still need leaders that can set goals and expectations, encourage and delegate tasks, build camaraderie and mitigate conflict.

Organisations will need to invest in new skills. Employees will need to enhance their existing skills, and develop new skills to be able to adapt to the technology and drive innovation.

  • Leadership development
  • Digital skills training
  • Employee wellbeing
  • Building an innovative culture


I think companies that invest in human resources will be ahead of companies that just invest in technology.



Finding the right mix of technical and human expertise


Competition shouldn't be man versus machines. It should be man and machine. Machines can help with speed, efficiency and accuracy, humans can help with judgement, empathy and creativity.

Businesses that balance these two skills will obtain a competitive edge, and maximise employee retention.


Conclusion

Ultimately the future of work will be human and artificial intelligence. Technology will have an impact on many jobs but more will also need people skills.

Organisations that will thrive will be those that leverage technology and also nurture, recognise and reward humans. Human skills will be more relevant to the future.

    1. Artificial intelligence is replacing mainly routine tasks, but it cannot fully replace human skills such as creativity, communication, leadership, and problem solving. To remain relevant, employees should keep learning new digital skills and strengthen the human abilities that technology cannot copy.

    1. I think AI is useful when it supports people, but it should not replace human judgement completely, in my view. AI can improve efficiency, save time, and assist with data based decisions, but people are still needed for creativity, empathy, leadership, and handling complex situations.
